About the Author

Veronica Roth’s debut novel, Divergent, was published in 2011, shortly after she graduated from Northwestern University. Roth wrote the first book during her senior year winter break and sold the movie rights before graduating. The series peaked at number two on The New York Times Best Seller List for Children’s Chapter Books and has been translated into over 20 languages.

Roth draws inspiration from her own experiences and other popular YA dystopian novels, exploring themes of authority, oppression, and social inequality against a backdrop of action and romance.
