About the Author

Axel Scheffler is an award-winning illustrator of some of the world’s best-loved children’s books, most famous for his collaboration with Julia Donaldson on titles such as The Gruffalo’s Child, Room on the Broom, and The Highway Rat. Many of these have been adapted into short films, theatre productions, and more. Born in 1957 in Hamburg, Germany, Scheffler studied at the Bath Academy of Art and Cooper Union in New York, solidifying his desire to become an illustrator. He began as a freelance illustrator in 1986 and published his first book in 1988. Since then, he has collaborated with various authors and illustrated over a hundred books.
