About the Author and Series
Darren Shan, also known as Darren O’Shaughnessy, is an Irish author born in London. He began his career as a typewriter with a keen interest in dark comedy. His first children’s book, Cirque du Freak, was published in January 2000. The Saga of Darren Shan narrates his transformation into a half-human, half-vampire as he tries to save his best friend, Steve. The series explores Shan’s challenges and adaptations to his new life and powers as a vampire.
In 2009, the series was adapted into a movie by Universal Studios, albeit with some differences. The later books delve into various vampire characters, their customs, beliefs, and a more nuanced portrayal of their lifestyle, moving away from traditional depictions. The series has been published in over 33 countries and translated into more than 30 languages, including CD recordings.
Note: This set contains some gruesome scenes, including chewed limbs and bloody imagery. The vampires in this series are unique; they can be killed by conventional weapons and possess extraordinary abilities, such as super senses and incredible speed.
