This saga is set during the Second World War and follows nineteen-year-old Trixie Smith. She works in a greengrocer's and plays the piano but feels unfulfilled. After seeing a recruitment poster, she joins the Women's Timber Corps to become a Lumberjill. Trixie's journey takes her to Scotland for training, where she meets Cy, an American soldier. Their brief romance leaves them hopeful for the future. As Trixie learns the challenges of lumberjill training, she forms strong friendships with her fellow recruits, facing the hardships of war together.
